This season was incredibly busy and ended last week on a high note. There is one more chance to see your Seahawks march-- November 26th at the Holiday Parade in Reston. For now, please check out our highlights:
October 8 - Senior Night and Youth Night: Friday evening was a full night of celebration for the band. The pregame slideshow at the tailgate dinner commemorated the contributions that our 23 seniors have made to the Seahawk band program. Then, before the game began, our seniors were escorted onto the field by loved ones. Senior Night was truly a success! At the same time, we welcomed over 40 7th and 8th graders for Youth Band Night—the future of the South Lakes marching band is bright! Halftime was fantastic—the new uniform shirts really helped to bring the show together. And it’s clear that the band’s hard work is paying off. Topping it all off, the football team won the game against Westfield by 1 point —Seahawk pride was in full effect as the band played the fight song on the field to cheering football players. October 15 - Homecoming: South Lakes Homecoming was a fabulous celebration with so many opportunities to showcase our band! The Best Band in the Land played “New York, New York” for the entire school at the pep rally. Then, off to the parade, where they marched and played for neighbors and fans cheering along the route. At the football game versus the Chantilly Chargers, the halftime show was punctuated by the cheers of the Marching Chargers who came over to watch (band kids are the BEST!). A football victory against Chantilly was the icing on the HOCO cake! October 23 - VBODA and VMBC: Saturday was a full day as we wrapped up our marching season! In the VBODA assessments at Patriot High School, the Spirit of Reston won top marks with the rating of SUPERIOR. After a brief respite back at South Lakes for dinner and arm wrestling, the band headed to Dominion High School in Sterling for the final VMBC competition of the year. Our Marching Seahawks earned their highest score of the season with over 85 points and won the caption award for percussion. LET’S GO BAND! Comments are closed.
