Thank you to everyone who joined us for our virtual booster meeting last week. We had a great turnout and covered a lot of topics. Some main items covered were our upcoming citrus sale fundraiser, succession planning for next year’s board and our upcoming Concert Band Assessment which will be held at South Lakes this year in March. Please see your weekly email for more information.
VBODA Concert Band Assessments are coming to South Lakes in March!!!
We hosted concert band assessments three years ago, so we know that it takes ALL HANDS to pull it off. This is a large, 2-day event for which we host over 20 bands from around Northern Virginia. Mr. Fore does a ton of work for this, but we need to help so he can dedicate his efforts to preparing the kids for the assessment and keep our streak of superior ratings going! We will need everybody – students and parents – to volunteer their time for the event on March 18th & 19th. This is a great time for the entire band program to work together. If your student is in Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, or Percussion Ensemble, we need your help. If your student is in Color Guard or Winter Guard, then we would certainly appreciate your help as well. A sign-up genius will be shared in a few weeks. Before we finalize the plans for all the volunteers, we need a handful of parents to take on several leadership positions. Dividing the work effectively will help us prepare for the event efficiently, and will spread the knowledge so we can host again in years to come. We are in need of leaders for the following positions: · Concessions (2) · Stage Management (1) · Visitor Management (1) · Band Management (2) · Volunteer Management (1) · Judges Hospitality (1) Due to the fantastic and meticulous preparation of the folks in 2019, we have a manual that details everything we need to prepare for the event. If you are worried about taking on a role, don’t be—the responsibilities for each position are clearly documented. It’s like paint by numbers. Really! We’d like to schedule a meeting ASAP for the planning committee. To volunteer, contact Marci Mouritzen at [email protected]. JMU will be hosting its annual Tromblow'in Academy on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from
9:30 a.m.– 4:30 p.m. This is an amazing opportunity to work with 11 Trombone professors in workshops to learn technique and new music genres. Registration will open on January 15th, and space is limited to the first 100 students so sign up right away.
