Wind Ensemble invited to the National Concert Band Festival- Mandatory Meeting November 6th10/29/2019
The South Lakes High School Wind Ensemble has a unique and exciting spring planned. We are one of 16 bands from across the United States to be invited to perform on the main stage at National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 11-14, 2020. This is an exceptionally rare opportunity to perform among the elite musicians in the America.
On November 6, 2019 at 7 pm a representative from Bands of America will be at South Lakes High School to provide a site visit and explain the process. This is a mandatory meeting for all students in Wind Ensemble and the percussionists who will be in the Wind Ensemble. A parent should accompany their student so they can learn about this wonderful opportunity. We are also inviting any senior in symphonic band who would like to travel the opportunity to be a part of this trip. They will have the opportunity to participate in master class, attend concerts, and be part of the social events. The National Concert Band Festival is one of the most prestigious high school band events in the nation and requires a rigors audition process. We have successfully passed that audition and now have the opportunity to provide our students a life experience at the highest level. Please visit https://www.musicforall.org/what-we-do/mfa-national-festival for more information and to watch the video with more details about NCBF. Congratulations go out to our Seahawk Band for achieving a Superior Rating in our VBODA Marching Band assessment on Friday, October 19th. This rating will pave the way to be recognized as an Honor Band for this year. THANK YOU to everyone who came out to Rock Ridge to cheer us on. Every hoot and holler and all the applause gives us that extra boost needed! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
For more information on the assessment and results, please go to https://vboda.org/index.php/marching-results.html We are happy to be hosting a Mattress Sale on Sunday, November 17, 2019 sponsored by Mattress Fundraising Solutions, a company owned by band parent Sharad Vyas. Over the next few weeks we will be working with Sharad to advertise the sale through online and print marketing. On the day of the sale we will need some student and parent volunteers to help promote and chaperone. A Sign Up Genius will be out soon with specific needs but please keep the date open. Last year we made over $3000 and hope to due even better this year. There will be a special incentive for students that help promote and bring in customers! Proceeds from the sale will help fund band activities and an end of year day trip.
Please join us in Sterling, VA at Dominion High School to cheer on your band! We are lucky to have this competition locally so it is a great time to see our amazing new uniforms and see our Vikings in Action. Performance time is 7:15 but plan to get there early for parking, tickets and to see our competition. Tickets are $10 for adults (12+), $5 for Kids (5-11) and free for the little ones.
