The All District Band performance this weekend was spectacular! Seeing these students perform together for the first time in almost two years was a total joy for everyone. The Symphonic Band played a challenging selection of five pieces including “Incantation and Dance”, “Light Cavalry Overture”, and a piece written by the conductor, Dr. Mark Lortz, titled “After Pandora” which reflects upon the events of 2020 through now. The Wind Ensemble played two incredibly challenging pieces. The first were three movements from “Wine Dark Sea” – a 35 minute long piece which tells the story of The Odyssey through theatrical music. The second was “Easter Monday on the White House Lawn” a three minute, note intensive, fast moving, jaunty ragtime by John Philip Sousa. These selection were what the conductor, Dr. Kenneth Thompson, called the hardest 35 minute piece and hardest three minute piece that any high schooler could ever play. Congratulations to all! Your dedication and hard work paid off! The online program is available here to view:
