Join us for our last Band concert of this school year. The Bands will be performing some amazing pieces featuring a medley from the movie Moana and Celtic Suite performed by the Symphonic Band, and Vesuvius and Strange Humors performed by the Wind Ensemble. The Concert starts at 7 pm and is free to everyone.
The Pyramid Music Day this weekend was a great success! We had elementary students in all three music disciplines--band, orchestra, and choir—gather, work in sectionals, play team-building games and do a mini performance for parents. Our middle school volunteers showed great leadership. The SLHS Band Boosters provided donuts for all as well as really cool t-shirts with an AC/ DC vibe for the band participants so look for those out in the community!
Thanks to the parent volunteers who helped out, and especially to Ms. Bergman, Ms. Waldrop, and Mr. Baldwin for running a fantastic event, and a big SHOUT OUT to Gretchen Hazlin for all her hard work in putting this together. Speaking of Band Awards Celebration, we will be holding our Year End Band Celebration on May 25th in the SLHS cafeteria. This is a celebration for ALL BAND STUDENTS and their families. This will be a POT LUCK dinner and we will be celebrating our amazing students, with a picture slide show, and we will be recognizing our Seniors. We are also incorporating our Marching Band Celebration as we didn’t have a separate one this year. Be on the lookout for more information in the next few days.
Our next Booster meeting is this Tuesday. It is open to all band parents and guardians and we encourage everyone to come. (It is only an hour and you will get great insight and input into the Band program. We are also working to fill vacancies on the Board, so it is a great time to throw your hat into the ring if you are interested in getting more involved. We have small, medium and large roles, so there is something for everyone. Look forward to seeing you all there!
The Nominating Committee has been hard at work reaching out to parents about playing volunteer roles next year. Thank you to all who have volunteered to help and/or are currently considering roles! If we have not contacted you, please do not assume that we don't want or need your help! We don't always know who is interested or what particular skills/passions our parents have and would like to use to support our wonderful band students!
We are looking for many people (especially our underclassmen parents) to take an active role next year as we are losing a large number of Board members to graduating students. If you have questions or ideas and/or would like to play a role next year - on the board, as a task lead, as part of a team, or in any capacity - please email any of the nominating committee below. We would love to chat with you! Marci.Mouritzen@southlakesband.org Cori.Lee@southlakesband.org Melanie.Erler@southlakesband.org Gretchen@southlakesband.org Here are the Board member roles.
